We write the way an experienced enthusiast talks to a friend, knowledgeable, honest and grounded, never like a salesperson. That means we tell the truth, including the parts that don’t flatter the brand: the timing chains, the rust, the weak points, the rivals that genuinely do some things better. Jimmy Smith: founder and owner of Pajero 4×4 Lifestyle. A dedicated Mitsubishi Pajero enthusiast, Jimmy built this platform to be the honest, knowledgeable resource South African owners deserve, the place he wished existed when he first fell for the Pajero. When he’s not writing guides or planning the next trail, you’ll find him behind the wheel of his own 4×4, somewhere off the tar.
How We Work
Anyone can publish a Pajero article. These are the rules we hold ourselves to, written down so you can hold us to them as well.
Where the numbers come from
Every specification, price and consumption figure on this site is for the South African market, because a UK review of a Shogun or an Australian test of a Pajero Sport will not tell you what the car costs or does here.
- Prices are dated. A used-market figure is only meaningful alongside the month it was gathered, so we say when we looked and where.
- Consumption figures come from owner-logged data wherever we can get it, not from the manufacturer’s claim. Real-world numbers run well above the brochure on every Pajero, and quoting the brochure would be useless to someone budgeting.
- Sources are listed on the articles that lean on outside data, so you can check our working rather than take our word for it.
First-hand, or researched, and we say which
When something is written from direct experience, we name the vehicle and the circumstances. When it is researched rather than lived, we write it as a guide and do not dress it up as a road test.
We do not invent ownership. There is a lot of motoring content that reads like somebody spent three years with a car they have never sat in, and it is worse than useless when you are deciding how to spend R300 000.
We publish the unflattering parts
The timing chain guides. The crankshaft pulley. The rust. The generations we think are a bad buy and the rivals that genuinely do some things better. A Pajero site that only said good things about Pajeros would be a brochure, and you would be right not to trust it.
Corrections
We get things wrong. When we do, we fix the article and say what changed rather than quietly editing it. If you have spotted an error, or you have owner data that contradicts something here, tell us. Owner corrections have improved more than one page on this site.
