The Kruger 4×4 eco-trails are a different kind of Pajero day out — low-range crawling, water crossings and big-game awareness rather than dunes and speed. They are guided, permit-controlled and strictly low-impact, which makes them ideal for newer owners learning their vehicle.
What the Trails Are Like
Expect rutted bush two-track, the odd rocky climb, and seasonal water crossings that demand you walk them first. Nothing here is extreme, but it is technical enough that a Pajero with good tyres and working low range will be comfortable while a soft-roader will struggle. Keep it in 4H for most of the day and select 4L for the climbs and crossings.
Pajero Setup
- All-terrain tyres at 1.8 bar — you want grip and sidewall protection, not float
- A snorkel is worth having for the wet-season crossings
- Recovery point front and rear, plus a rated strap — convoys help each other here
Booking & Etiquette
Trails are booked through SANParks and run with a guide. Stay in the convoy, never leave the vehicle in big-game areas, and pack out everything. These permits exist because owners before us respected the rules — keep it that way.
