Seven in a Row — The Unbreakable Record
From 2001 to 2007, the Pajero won the Dakar Rally seven consecutive times. No manufacturer had ever dominated the event like it, and none has since. It is this run — seven straight victories in the world’s hardest race — that secured the Guinness World Record and cemented the Pajero as the most successful Dakar machine in history.
Along the way, the Pajero made history in other ways too. In 1997, Kenjiro Shinozuka became the first Japanese driver to win the Dakar overall, at the wheel of a Pajero. The legendary Stéphane Peterhansel — “Mr Dakar” himself — added multiple victories for Mitsubishi during the record run, alongside drivers like Hiroshi Masuoka and Jean-Pierre Fontenay.
